Scan the QR to save the position

    Introduction

The QR scan feature makes it easy to track the position of a device without forcing a transmission or using the device’s battery.

QR scan tracking using a mobile phone to save device position

By scanning the QR code on a tracking device, you can save an accurate location using your mobile phone’s GPS and send it directly to the Trusted data portal.

The QR scan feature is ideal when you need a quick position update without waiting for the device to report on its own.

What is the QR scan feature and how does it work?

The QR scan feature allows users to manually save a device position by scanning the QR code printed on the device label.

When the QR code is scanned:

    • The GPS on the mobile phone is used to capture the position
    • The location is sent to the Trusted data portal
    • The tracking device itself does not transmit and does not use battery

    To scan a QR code:

    • Use the Trusted Data App, or
    • Use a mobile browser while logged in to the Trusted data portal

Users without the app can still use the QR scan feature by scanning the QR code with their phone camera and saving the position through the portal.

    Who can use QR scans?

The QR scan feature works for:

    • Users with the Trusted Data App installed
    • Users without the app, as long as they are logged in to the data portal on a mobile device

This makes QR scans useful for:

    • External partners
    • Temporary users
    • Situations where installing the app is not possible

How to see QR scans for a device

You can view all QR scans for a specific device directly in the data portal.

    View QR scan history

    1. Open the device you want to review
    2. Click the QR scans tile

You will see a list showing:

    • Date – when the QR scan was performed
    • User – who scanned the QR code on the device

This gives you full transparency over when and by whom a position was saved using the QR scan feature.

    QR scans on position list

All QR scans also appear in the device’s position list.

    • A QR icon on the left indicates that the position was saved via QR scan
    • This makes it easy to distinguish QR scans from automatically reported positions

    Filter QR scan positions

If you use the filter function in the position list, you can select Mobile app scan to display only positions saved via the QR scan feature.
