Transition from Fossil Fuel Forklifts to Modern Electric Forklifts with Trusted Tracking

Leading material handling provider and forklift manufacturer had the need to replace customers' diesel and petrol forklifts with modern and high-quality electric forklifts to meet the green transition.

Jungheinrich

Jungheinrich is a premier global manufacturer of material handling equipment and forklifts, with 12 production plants worldwide. Their extensive portfolio features high-quality electric forklifts designed to tackle any warehouse and intralogistics challenge.

With direct sales companies in 42 countries and partnerships in 80, Jungheinrich solidifies its leadership in the industry. Transitioning from diesel and petrol-powered forklifts to electric models is crucial for Jungheinrich's commitment to reducing CO2 emissions.

Challenge

Jungheinrich strives to fulfill its climate neutrality goal by 2050. A significant step towards this goal is replacing sales of diesel and LPG powered forklifts with electric forklifts. However, Jungheinrich is facing major challenges in transitioning with this paradigm shift. The primary issue is that customers are concerned about the time required to charge the electric forklifts, especially given their assumption that the forklifts are in use throughout the day.

Pains

Jungheinrich experience challenges in convincing customers to adopt the new technology. Customers are hesitant because they believe that their forklifts were in constant use and do not have sufficient downtime for charging. This perception can hinder the sales of electric forklifts and slow down Jungheinrich’s and their customers’ progress toward respective climate neutrality goals.

The perception of MHE utilisation time is often far greater than reality. The Trusted device allows us to dispel those misconceptions.

Solution

To address this challenge, Jungheinrich sought the expertise of Trusted A/S, specialists in data tracking and monitoring of equipment operating hours. Trusted provided a solution by mounting data loggers on the combustion engine forklifts to collect usage patterns.

The data collected was displayed in the Trusted data portal, which clearly showed where, when, and how much the forklifts were in use. This documentation helped identify the ‘Opportunity to Charge’ — the times when the forklifts were not in use and could be charged.

Trusted data loggers are now an integral part of Jungheinrich’s Sales Energy Experts sales support kits when convincing customers that electric forklifts are the future.

Outcome

With the insights provided by Trusted A/S, Jungheinrich was able to map and represent the charging opportunities for their customers forklifts. This information empowered the sales team, consisting of Sales Energy Experts worldwide, to better sell electric forklifts to customers. Through extensive testing and constant dialogue, Jungheinrich and Trusted developed a sales support kit that includes a user manual and a data logger.

This kit supports the Sales Energy Experts in demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of electric forklifts to customers, ultimately aiding Jungheinrich in achieving its climate neutrality goal by 2050.

The Trusted device allows us to identify battery charging intervals that the end-users were not previously aware of, and these additional layers of detail and data add value to our customers giving them confidence and trust in the accuracy of our solution.
