IoT data tracking prevents downtime because of predictive maintenance

Downtime due to breakdowns and unscheduled service lead a Swedish mining company to the Trusted tracking solution. Soon they had implemented predictive maintenance to both machines and non-powered assets.

Predictive Maintenance for Non-Powered Equipment – trustedglobal.com

“How do we eliminate downtime caused by breakdowns and waiting for replacement parts?”
This was the challenge for one of our Swedish customers.
Normally, monitoring non-powered equipment is impossible. Tracking the use of a massive loading bucket in a harsh environment seems even harder.
But Trusted tracking solved the problem.

One solution to stay in control

The customer contacted Entrack, a supplier of wear parts and buckets for heavy machinery. They needed a way to ensure wear plates and other parts were serviced on time.

In short, they wanted accurate data on usage to plan predictive maintenance.
Our partner Euro Spårning provided a Trusted tracker. The company mounted it on the back of the bucket.

The durable and reliable tracking solution that just works

Trusted’s trackers are not afraid of dirt, shocks, or the forces of nature. This has been proven on icebergs in the Atlantic, wildlife in Africa and now also in a gravel pit in rocky Sweden.

And just as advertised, the sensors in the tracker quickly provided the company with data on the actual utilization hours and the amount of shock the bucket sustains.

This enables them to calculate when serviceable wear parts should be changed, prolonging the lifespan of the massive steel bucket on the wheel loader.

An alarm from the data platform will also notify the user when the predictive maintenance and ultimately replacement is due based on the data on running hours from the asset.

A small and very profitable investment

Tracking non-powered equipment separately from the machine is a new way to manage assets.

This approach saves money and reduces downtime. The company can now track each bucket individually, even when used on different wheel loaders.

Installing trackers on machines provides the same benefits for the equipment itself. This investment extends the life of machines and attachments, saving costs and supporting sustainability.
