In cooperation with Royal Arctic Line and onboard two of their vessels – Arina Arctica and Mary Arctica – the Trusted S1 tracking device was thoroughly tested in the toughest of environments.
From Greenland and all the way down to Antarctica – across the heat of the equator – the battery-powered S1 tracker performed as well as expected.
The most remote and rough environments on the planet
Over a period of 6 months, we were kindly allowed to install the S1 Iridium tracker onboard the Arina Arctica for its trip to the east and west of Greenland up to Lat 78°.
After returning from Greenland, we installed the same tracker to the Mary Arctica for a trip to Antarctica for delivery of supplies to the Norwegian bases at Lat -72°.
While Greenland is no picnic in itself, Antarctica is known as the coldest, windiest, and driest continent on Earth.
This, however, is no problem for the S1 device which did not miss a single transmission during the journey. This might be business as usual for the device itself, but impressive as it also endured the heat at the equator during the trip.
As such, an impressively wide temperature range was tested as well.
All in all, the tracking device traveled more than 50.000 km, logging positions every hour and transmitting four reports per day.

The S1 is a continuation of the Iridium satellite and GPS work Trusted has carried out in Africa since 2015.
Here our trackers have been working in the field of anti-poaching and scientific wildlife tracking helping to secure endangered species like rhinos, elephants, and many other animals.
